LUCKNOW: Amazon.in has announced to launch its second Fulfilment Centre in UP. The new centre in Lucknow is spread over close to Rs 50000 square feet with over 35000 cubic feet of storage space. Company said that the decision to set up this centre was empower hundreds of small and medium businesses in state to leverage the growth of digital economy and reach a wide customer base through e-commerce portal.
The company now has two fulfilment centres in UP -in Ghaziabad and Lucknow- offering close to 150,000 cubic feet of storage space for faster delivery to customers in this region. This is one of the seven recently announced fulfilment centres for this year. The company said that by end of 2017, it will have 41 fulfilment centres across 13 states of the country with a combined storage space of close to 13 million cubic feet.
Akhil Saxena, vice president of India Customer Fulfilment Amazon India said, “Amazon India’s investment in UP with the launch of their fulfilment centre signifies the growing interest of large global enterprises in the state. The centre will enable hundreds of small and medium businesses selling locally created products such as handlooms to service customers seamless across the country.”
The company said that the centre will also provide a fillip to the local economy by enabling the growth of ancillary businesses such as packaging, transportation, logistics and hospitality across the state. It informed that the selection offered by the UP sellers for immediate delivery has grown more than 110% this year as compared to last year. While the fulfilment centre in Lucknow will cater to a mix of categories, the earlier centre in Ghaziabad is a specialised infrastructure to support the growth of large appliance and furniture categories.
