European distributor Distrelec has expanded its range of embedded electronic components with inclusion of new products from leading manufacturer of accessible open source technology, SparkFun Electronics.
SparkFun Electronics is specialised in manufacturing open source products, tools and associated accessories.
Initially, Distrelec will start distributing selected products from SparkFun Electronics’ impressive range of robotics technology, including sensors, development kits and boards and break out boards, and will continue to expand its product assortment throughout 2019.
“SparkFun Electronics provides a wealth of resources, components and widgets that enable the next generation of makers from all technological backgrounds to achieve electronic literacy. Our collaboration with Distrelec will further strengthen our online community and continue to harbour a platform where innovators of all skill levels can learn from one another,” said Glenn Samala, CEO at SparkFun Electronics in a statement.
SparkFun and its commitment towards open source
SparkFun Electronics’ SparkX division, led by founder Nathan Seidle, last month released the company’s first open-source, embedded-systems module—SparkFun Artemis, Engineering Version. This module will enable engineers, prototypers, and R&D teams to integrate the TensorFlow machine-learning platform into any design.
Additionally, the team launched three boards with the unshielded module: BlackBoard Artemis, BlackBoard Artemis Nano and BlackBoard Artemis ATP.
“Our goal is to enable anyone to integrate low-power machine learning into their designs and projects without being locked into a specific toolchain,” said SparkFun founder and engineer, Nathan Seidle.
He added, “The Artemis module is the first product to bridge the gap between hobbyists and consumer products, providing a single module from prototype to production.”
In addition to more than 2,000 open source components and widgets, SparkFun offers online tutorials and training designed to help demystify the world of embedded electronics.
